Professional editing is the cornerstone of a successful book. While you may have worked on your book for a long time and gone through many rewrites, completed some of your own editing, and solicited feedback from family and friends, none of that replaces what a professional editor can bring to your book: a fresh eye. Professional editors also know what readers want and expect—and what sells.

Important note: Our book editing services require files be submitted as Word documents. We cannot accept manuscripts in PDF format for these services.

Basic Copy Edit

The Basic Copy Edit includes one round of editing @ 2¢ per word.

Our editors will:

  • Correct spelling.
  • Correct grammar.
  • Correct punctuation.
  • Correct syntax.
  • Correct errors in sentence structure and language usage.
  • Insert notes where approval from a third-party may be required (i.e., permissions and copyright issues).
  • Correct errors on commonly known facts (names, titles, cities, states, etc.).

Our editors for this package will not:

  • Restructure or reword sentences unless words are misused.
  • Suggest developmental changes to characters or plot.
  • Police suggested edits or revisions. (Errors that are missed or intentionally left as-is after the first round of edits will remain in the finished manuscript.)
  • Proofread the formatted book for any remaining errors or inconsistencies.
  • Contact or secure any necessary permissions from third-party sources for reproduced material, including but not limited to: song lyrics, photos, poems, newspaper articles, or text. Material taken from other sources that exceeds 10 percent of the original word count exceeds fair use, and it is the author’s responsibility to secure permission from the original source’s publisher.

How the Basic Copy Edit process works:

Our commitment is to have the copy edited manuscript finished within 20 business days from the date that you submit your manuscript. You will be able to see the edits/deletions in the file and will have the choice to either accept or reject them. Additional time may be required when the original manuscript exceeds 100,000 words.

Comprehensive Copy Edit

The Comprehensive Copy Edit includes two rounds of editing @ a total of 3.5¢ per word.

Our editors will:

Round One

  • Edit the manuscript with an eye for the grammatical errors and inconsistencies listed in the basic package (spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, etc.), as well as offer developmental suggestions that might improve the clarity of the book's message (arguments, main points, thesis) or story development (characters, dialogue, plot).
  • Ensure that the book’s message and development is consistent throughout the manuscript.
  • Highlight text that is erroneous, repetitive, or extraneous.
  • Schedule a thirty-minute phone conference with you to discuss the editing suggestions and recommendations that are made in Round One. This will allow you to ask questions or voice concerns that you might have with this process.

Round Two

  • This round helps eliminate any remaining typos, errors, or inconsistencies in the revised manuscript. We will also copy edit any new text incorporated during your revision process.

Our editors for this package will not:

  • Provide a complete fact-check of the manuscript.
  • Review revisions in response to the second edit. Errors that are missed or intentionally left as-is after the second round of editor's remarks will remain in the finished manuscript.
  • Proofread the formatted book; your editor will only work on the Word file version of your manuscript.

How the Comprehensive Copy Edit process works:

  • Our commitment is to have the copy edited manuscript finished within 20 business days from the date that you submit the manuscript. You will be able to see the edits/deletions in the file and will have the choice to either accept or reject them. Additional time may be required when the original manuscript exceeds 100,000 words.
  • Once you have reviewed and corrected the initial edited manuscript, you will resubmit the revised manuscript with suggested times/days for your conference call. After this call with your editor, we will begin the second round of editing, and your editor will have the final revisions uploaded within 10 business days.
